Acceptable Use Policy
Last updated: 30 September 2026
The people in our lists are real: label A&Rs, curators, DJs and producers who published their contact details so artists and businesses could reach them about music. Treat their inbox the way you would want yours treated. These rules are part of our Terms of Service, and breaking them can cost you your licence.
Do
- Pitch people whose work fits yours. Filter by genre, country and type before you send. A techno label does not want your acoustic EP.
- Say who you are. Use your real name or artist name, a real reply-to address and an honest subject line.
- Keep it personal and short. One relevant track or offer beats a mass blast.
- Read the submission rules. If a label or curator lists a demo policy or submission link, follow it instead of emailing.
- Include a simple opt-out in every message, such as "Reply 'no thanks' and I won't email again", and honour it within 10 business days at most.
- Mention where you found their details. In the EU and UK, say that you got their contact from DemoPool in your first message.
- Add your business or postal address to commercial emails where the law asks for it (for example CAN-SPAM in the US and CASL in Canada).
- Delete contacts when we tell you they asked to be removed.
Don't
- Don't send bulk, untargeted campaigns to the whole list.
- Don't follow up more than twice if someone doesn't reply.
- Don't use misleading subject lines, fake "Re:" or "Fwd:" threads, or pretend you already know someone.
- Don't add contacts to newsletters or marketing lists they never signed up for.
- Don't send attachments to people who haven't asked for them. Use a private streaming or download link.
- Don't use the list for phishing, scams, fake promo offers, harassment or anything illegal.
- Don't resell, share, publish or upload the list anywhere others can access it.
- Don't contact anyone who has said no, to you or to us.
The laws that usually apply
- EU and UK: GDPR and UK GDPR, plus ePrivacy rules and PECR. Business contacts may generally be emailed on a legitimate-interest basis when the message is relevant to their role, but some countries require prior consent for marketing emails even to businesses. Check the rules where the recipient lives.
- USA: CAN-SPAM. Accurate header and subject, a clear identification, a physical address and a working opt-out.
- Canada: CASL. Published business addresses can be used for messages relevant to the person's role, unless they have said they don't want unsolicited messages. Include your identity, contact details and an unsubscribe option.
This is a practical summary, not a complete statement of the law. You are responsible for complying with the laws that apply to your outreach.
What we do about abuse
