How to pitch an R&B playlist curator

R&B is a vocal genre, and curators listen to the voice first. The vocal has to be clear, in tune and sitting on top of the mix. A great beat with a buried vocal will not get added.

Pick the right vibe. Slow jams, alternative R&B, neo-soul, late-night and R&B with a hip-hop edge are different playlists. Name the mood in your pitch and a couple of artists your song sits next to, picked from the playlist itself.

Many R&B playlists are built for a moment: late night, love songs, Sunday morning. Tell the curator which one your song fits. If you have a clean version, offer it. Some mood playlists do not take explicit lyrics.

Keep the email personal and short: why this playlist, one line about the song, the release date and the Spotify link. Follow up once. Thank curators who add you and share the playlist on your socials.
